Key takeaways
- The term 'Assassin' originated from the Nizari Ismaili sect founded by Hassan Ibn Sabah in the 11th century.
- Hassan Ibn Sabah established a highly disciplined, meritocratic, and secretive state based in the Alamut fortress.
- The order became famous for employing targeted political assassinations to weaken superior military enemies, such as the Seljuks and Crusaders.
- Legends surrounding the group, such as the use of hashish to induce visions of paradise, were largely popularized by external accounts like those of Marco Polo.
- The Nizari Ismaili movement continues to exist today, with the Aga Khan IV currently serving as the spiritual leader.
The Rise of the Assassins and Hassan Ibn Sabah
The story of the Assassins begins in the 11th century with a schism in the Islamic world. Following the death of the Prophet Muhammad, Islam divided into Sunni and Shia branches. Further divisions within the Shia movement led to the rise of the Ismailis. When a succession crisis occurred within the Fatimid Caliphate, a faction supporting the eldest son, Nizar, was persecuted. Among them was Hassan Ibn Sabah, an educated and charismatic leader who would go on to shape history.
Hassan Ibn Sabah led his followers to the virtually impenetrable mountain fortress of Alamut in Persia. There, he established a new religious and political order, often described as a 'state of utopia' or a paramilitary republic. He rejected traditional taxes, instead requiring citizens to work on fortifications and infrastructure, and implemented strict laws that governed every aspect of life in his community.
The Strategy of Targeted Assassination
Recognizing that his small, isolated group could not defeat larger armies like the Seljuks in open warfare, Hassan Ibn Sabah devised a practical and lethal alternative: political assassination. By eliminating the leaders of opposing forces—viziers, sultans, and military commanders—the order could destabilize their enemies from within.
This led to the creation of the 'Fida'i' or 'devoted ones,' highly trained operatives tasked with carrying out these missions. These individuals were recruited young, trained in combat, linguistics, and the art of disguise, and were famously obedient, willing to sacrifice their lives for the order's objectives. When a successful assassination was carried out, the name of the operative and the victim would be recorded on a copper tablet at the gate of Alamut.
Separating Myth from Reality
Much of what is known about the Assassins is shrouded in myth. The popular association with hashish—which gave rise to the term 'hashishin'—is widely considered by historians to be a derogatory label rather than a factual description of the order's practices. Similarly, the elaborate stories regarding the recruitment of killers through drug-induced visions of paradise, popularized by travelers like Marco Polo, are likely exaggerations or misunderstandings of the sect's intense religious devotion and secrecy.
The order's influence extended to the Crusades, where they acted as a complex political player, at times aligning with or opposing both Muslim and Christian leaders depending on the strategic interests of Alamut. Despite their reputation for terror, the Assassins operated as a calculated political force rather than mindless killers.
The Fall of Alamut and the Modern Legacy
The state of the Assassins eventually declined due to internal corruption as later leaders abandoned the ascetic principles of Hassan Ibn Sabah in favor of luxury. In 1256, the Mongol Empire, an unstoppable force of the era, besieged and eventually destroyed the fortress of Alamut. The massacre of the inhabitants marked the end of the order as a sovereign political state.
Despite the destruction of their headquarters, the Nizari Ismaili movement did not vanish. Its followers dispersed throughout the Middle East, eventually finding homes in India and Pakistan. Today, the movement remains active globally, led by the Aga Khan IV, a prominent figure in international philanthropy and business. The story of the Assassins has transcended history, evolving into modern legends, video games, and conspiracy theories, while the actual community continues to exist as a modern religious organization.

00:00According to legend, one of the Persian caliphs decided to restore order in his country. And I must say that at court he had a lot, as he believed, of all sorts of different foreign spies. And he began to catch these spies and execute some spies. One morning he woke up, and he was very well guarded and believed that he could not be killed. He had very strong security. One morning he wakes up and found a dagger at the head of his bed and a note “If you don’t stop it the thing at your head will be in your heart”
00:39This note was written to him by Hasan Ibn Sabah or the Elder from the mountain - the head of the terrible sect of assassins. Let’s talk about them today. Hello! I am Sergei Minayev and this is a history lesson.[music]
00:57Well, Assassins - this term is probably already well known to you: in the game Assassin’s Creed, in all kinds of movies, serials and comics. In general, Assassin is a word that is now used in English for murderers, and actually came from the East. It came from a sect created by Hassan Ibn Sabah. As a matter of fact, it was not a sect, but a whole state. It was a state, it can even be said, that not just a state,
01:34but in general, such a philosophical socio-religious trend. Without religion, nothing could have been done, and in fact everything began with religion. In the seventh century, the prophet Muhammad united the divided peoples of the Arab East in the midst of the religion of Islam - a young, passionate religion - and, in fact, this is the first time that the entire Arab world has almost come together, and it has not lasted long. After the death of the prophet Muhammad, the Islamic world is divided into two large groups. They are still in these groups - they are
02:17Shiites and Sunnis. Talking about the history of the split in Islam is generally a separate topic, so we will briefly observe this topic. The split is natural, like any split, it occurs in the way people interpret or understand religion and in the way they struggle for power. The same thing happened here. In the eighth century, the Muslim world splits, the Sunnis believe that the Muslim community should be led by the elected Caliph, the Shiites believe that power should be transferred only to the direct descendant of the prophet. But even here in the Shia world, there was no unity,
03:02because exactly who must lead the Muslims. Here another split occurred and the Ismaili movement came. It still exists in our time. Or adherents of ismail. Ismail was the eldest son of the sixth Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq. That's not all. In the 11th century, a split occurred among the Ismailis. What happened? At that time Egypt was ruled by the Fatimid Muslim dynasty and has two sons- Ali Mustali's younger son and Nizar's eldest son. The eldest son should inherit after the death of the
03:43Caliph. Just before his death, the Caliph changes his mind and actually transfers all power to his youngest son Ali Mustali. A significant part of the Ismailis does not accept Mustali and continue to consider their eldest son Nizar as their leader. As a result of internecine strife, Nizar is captured and imprisoned, and in that prison he dies. The Nizari began to be persecuted, and in fact, at this moment, the Nizari got a new Leader, social and spiritual at the same time. His name is Hasan Ibn Sabah.
04:22He is a very educated person, according to legend, he was friends with the elite of the Muslim world. In particular, with the famous poet Omar Khayyam, whose "Rubaiyat" some of you must have read. He was an educated person, a very passionate, very religious person, and in general, in our modern terms, he was both a social leader and a spiritual leader. In this time he makes the persecuted Nizaris to follow him. The Nizarites flee from Egypt and take refuge in hard-to-reach areas of Persia. There they find a fortress called Alamut. The fortress stands on top of a rock, almost unapproachable.
05:02Here is the first legend about Hasan Sabah that that practically by persuasion forced the defenders of the fortress, not numerous, to surrender and he captured this fortress and settled in it together with his associates.

06:51In 1090, Sabah began to build his own state. I must say that at that time Alamut was in Persia under the rule of the Seljuks. And now the Nizars are beginning to spread their teachings, they’re starting to take over nearby fortresses, settlements, large fortresses, smaller fortresses. We can even say - they were entrenched there. So, he builds his own state. Hassan founded a new teaching called Aidawa Al-Jadida, which means a call for a new Faith. You can’t call it a branch of Islam, you can call it a trend. Let’s take
07:36a look at the term. What does Hassan do? It repeals all sharia laws in the territory of its state, replacing them with even stricter religious laws, for which they are simply punishable by death. On these laws, he cancels all taxes that the Seljuks have established. Instead, the people, in the form of taxes, in the form of a tribute to the state, began to engage in the construction of fortifications, the construction of canals and the construction of fortresses on the orders of Hassan. In other words, it reinforces the state. This religion trend that Hasan founded, on the one hand, he used Islam
08:19and on the other hand, he used such mystical and philosophical religious beliefs that exist in the historical environment of any nation. Muslims have faith in the 13th Imam. Who is the 13th Imam? The 13th imam will face the Last Judgment, who is currently asleep until the final judgment until the moment 13-th of Last Judgment and communicates with the people, with the believers, through his messengers. In fact, the 13th imam is such an important figure. And Hassan Ibn Sabah, of course, began to impersonate the 13th imam. I have to say that after a while Hasan started to be called
09:01the Elder man in the mountain. Anyway, he wasn't an old man. I think he was 30 to 40 years old at the time. This means that the Elder man actually comes from the mountains. And it didn’t end there either, but it was later transformed into European history, which you may have heard. It's called "The King beneath the Mountain". In different countries of Europe, there is a folk legend that some famous king did not actually die, but fell asleep beneath the mountain, and when the Fatherland is in serious danger, he will rise, gather the troops, take out the Sword and destroy the enemies. Frederick Barbarossa did not die - but sleeps somewhere
09:41under the mountain, in Denmark there is such a king, in Poland the knights are sleeping, who are waiting for their moment, in Austria, in the Teutoburg Forest in France. There are so many personalities who are not asleep. In general - every country has such legends. In England, King Arthur is still sleeping. Merlin, who wasn't assassinated and he is sleeping on the islands. All these sleeping kings, they are waiting for their moment, that when some dangerous mortal man will be born, they will rise from the dead and, in fact, with their army of the dead, will destroy the enemy. If you watched "The Lord of the Rings ",
10:15then you remember that the future king of Mordor passed through the Kingdom of the Dead and this is the army of the dead, who, with the king of the dead, initially those who violated the vow, it helped to break all these hordes of hateful Orcs. Tolkien naturally showed this in legend of the King beneath the Mountain. It is through this mixture of mystical and religious studies that Hasan Ibn Sabah begins creations of own state. Of course, the Seljuk, who were such high tempered peoples located in the area behind, does not accept it at all. They begin
10:53to fight with Hassan and with his young republic too. It is not by chance that I say the republic, because indeed, for that moment it was a completely different feudal state republic. In other words, it was even more similar not to the feudal state republic of its time, but to the state republic of utopia, which Thomas More would later describe to us or Componella. That is, this is a very specific thing, we will definitely return to it. In general, the Seljuks began to fight and in open Nizari were not numerous, and the Seljuks had better weapons. And at the moment, a story is happening that pushes Hassan Ibn Sabah to a very simple idea, and at the same time, a very
11:32practical one. And at the moment, a story is happening that pushes Hassan Ibn Sabah to a very simple idea, and at the same time, a very practical one -why in an open field to resist hordes of enemies, when, in principle, it can be possible to execute all their military leaders, clergymen, viziers, sultans, military advisers and anyone with the help of a hired killer? We will simply chop off the heads of the enemy's leaders and they will do nothing to us. And what he came up with lived for almost 200 years.
12:09The history of the Order of the Assassins begins in 1092 in the city of Sava. Nizari preachers kill the muezzin because they're afraid he's going to betray them to the authorities. They lead a secret life, they allow no one to approach them, and they keep everyone behind seven seals. The murderers were captured by the Sultan and put to a painful death. This information was subsequently given to the Elder of the Mountain, Hassan Ibn Sabah. When Hassan receives such news, he rises to the roof of one of the houses in Alamut and says that to punish this Sultan, it will not just be a pleasing to God, but in general it is the sacred obligation of every person, so that the flames of hell fall
12:52on the head of this damned Sultan. And a young man goes out, according to legend, his name is Butakhira Rani, who says "I am willing to do so" and he goes to the Sultan. Of course, the Sultan is guarded by a huge number of people. For several days, he went to the places visited by the Sultan: the mosque, some places near the palace and he awaited him for several days. According to legend, before the assassin, he stands motionless in some niche in the palace, leaning his back against the wall for about 5 hours. Later, this will be a special test for all killers. And at some moment when the Sultan's guard
13:29relaxes, our young man comes out of the niche and thrusts a poisoned dagger into the Sultan's chest The sultan dies, the young man was murdered immediately also, this news comes to Alamut. And on the wall gates, which are named as the city wall of Alamut, a copper tablet has been placed with the name of the young man and the man whom he killed. As time goes on, there will be a huge amount of those tablets. Because the Assassins will kill on the territory of the entire Arab world. Now actually, why do we call them – “assassins”? Where does it come from?? What kind of name is
14:12"Assassins"? This word comes from the original name of the Nizari sect, the sect of the Elder from the Mountain. Their enemies called them Hashishids and they were people who smoked hashish and committed these horrific crimes, according to this version. According another version is that the word “hashish” means the careless word “rabble”, that is, these people who followed Hassan Ibn Sabah were a rabble from the point of view of the rest of the Muslim world. And that's how they were derogatory. Subsequently, the Hashishids, the Assassins, and this word were fixed in historiography, in fact,
14:52in cinema. Now the Assassins are hired killers, you have heard this word so many times. And then after the first murder, the order begins to acquire legends. First, about the management of this entire structure. Why did I say Republic. There was only one leader and he was the Elder of the Mountain Hassan Ibn Sabah. There were no castes, riches were forbidden by law. It was a country of equals, it was ruled by communities. Each community had a leader who was subordinated to Hasan directly. Accordingly, religion was of the utmost importance. The bans on everything
15:35were just the most severe. Hassan, according to legend, killed two of his sons. He killed one on suspicion that he was preparing some kind of conspiracy against him. You know that people are authoritarian and they are very afraid of conspiracies. And it means he killed his son. He killed his second son for having wine. It was strictly forbidden and he actually killed his son. The next time an incomprehensible situation started with his daughters and he banished them to work as yarn-spinners for the rest of their lives. It means he was ruthless toward his inner circle, towards his family. By the way - the legend that Hassan's son was killed
16:10because of drinking wine does not match with the term "Hashishids", because further, when I will tell you how these assassins were trained in general, many people blamed Hassan of having recruited people from childhood from a very young age and he makes them addicted to drugs. And the hashish destroyed their conscience so much that they did not understand what they were doing and followed only his orders. But how could that be? Wine was banned and most likely drugs, of course, were also banned. Therefore, it looks like this is a "slander on the grandfather". In other words, the
16:51grandpa on the mountain or the Elder on the Mountain, I don't think he used a hash, but nobody knows exactly. So there was such a brutal paramilitary religious society, people work instead of taxes, there's no wealth allowed. Everyone is equal, everyone is controlled by the communities, respectively, the taxes of Seljuks all were canceled and Hasan started building his own story of hired killers. According to legend, we didn't know much about the Nizari. They led a much closed way of life. They let nobody approach them, and therefore the information doesn't come to their enemies. Sure, the enemies (danger always looks greater through the eyes of fear)
17:31were speculated and imagined there, but there were hardly any more accurate facts. What do we know from the legends? They were recruited into contract killers, and Assassins, and, let us note this fact, they were not called "assassins" or "hashish". They called themselves Fidaïens and Fidaïens. They were such persons, who set out on the path of this sacred struggle and who performed all their works for the glory of God. Those boys were taken from poor families at the age of 13-14. They were trained most severely: they had to be able to fight, and they had to be able to shoot from all types of weapons that only existed at that time - a bow and, probably, a crossbow, which came later
18:16with the Crusaders, to throw a spear, to throw knives. They must be able to use poisons and endure incredible torment at the time of the internship, at the time of training, without food and water, and stand for 5-10 hours leaning in one position, without changing their poses with their backs against a stone wall. You have to endure a battle with three or four more powerful adversaries. The hazing was terrifying, meaning that when these young boys came and knocked at the door, they were kicked out of there. When they knocked a second time, they were stoned from above. The third time, they were beaten with wooden sticks. This is how they had
18:56to go through their ritual to prove that they are worthy and, accordingly, during training they were cut with knives and beaten with clubs, they did whatever they wanted with them. They had to endure the pain. Do you recognize familiar notes there? This is a "Game of Thrones" and the famous army of the unsullied, which knew no mercy and felt no pain. And the story about how to come to the temple and then knock several times is “Valar Morghulis”- also the second story that was used in the Game of Thrones. Boys come and they train them. And here is another important legend, Hassan Ibn Sabah, who uses
19:37this story about the 13th Imam. How? He had many doubles. At some point, his look came out and said, “I am Hasan Ibn Sabah, I want to tell you something, or I want to advise you somehow. And after that, I got up and set myself on fire." And after that, he got up on the fire. And this flame devoured him completely. The next morning, Hassan Ibn Sabah went out into the courtyard or on the roof of the house and said: “So, what about the flame, by the way? You saw it yesterday, right? I'm talking about the resurrection. So there I am. Look and feel!.” Of course, this made such an impression on the people of that time,
20:15as the Copperfield towers later. The second story is that he could bring people back to life. How did he do that? A hole bursts in the stone floor where the young man sits, his head remains on the surface only. Around it are two halves of a copper dish doused in blood. The head closes its eyes and thus becomes severed. Ibn Sabah has talked to his followers: "Well, if there is something you do not understand about my teaching, let us ask the deceased Abu Ali. Tell me, please, what was your battle with the vizier you killed four days ago?" The head opened its eyes and said: "Great Old Man, I want to tell you the following story”. Everyone was naturally trembling, falling:
20:59"He animates the dead!" Naturally, the young man was then beheaded and shown as proof- there were no lies - the dead head was talking. It was an almost incredible story, which just made everybody tremble. The third story is the story about paradise. The youths were fed with hashish until they lost consciousness, then transferred from the barracks to the courtyard. In this inner courtyard, they woke up, around them beautiful girls, beauty in general simply indescribable, wine, sweets, fruits. They lived in this paradise for a day, and then they were somehow put to sleep again and brought back, Ibn Sabah said to them, "This is paradise, this is what it looks like,
21:42and you will get there after you complete my biddings." You have already seen it. You want to see it again (sure, who wouldn't?) So, now you know you will." Naturally, the religious people, uneducated people, just accepted it all with a bang. Of course, no training was possible without the wise, without the scientists, without the alchemists, and so on. They were stolen and brought to Alamut. From that place, they did not leave but were engaged in training. They were close to Hasan and involved in his entire sect of killers' training activity. But more importantly,
22:21you must know how to kill. You need to be able to win trust. You had to be able to reincarnate. As a result, all restrictions are removed from reincarnation. If you have to kill the victim, which Hasan ibn Sabah ordered, you can renounce Islam publicly, convert to Christianity, live as a Christian, watch over the victim and then kill him in church. Nothing was forbidden there. You could pretend to be blind, poor, wretched. You must have spoken the languages of the region where you directed. They were universal killers
23:02and very extraordinary killers. One of the killers claimed to be a blind invalid and drew the enemy commanders one by one killed them. The Crusaders, when they came (I’ll tell you later), King Conrad of Jerusalem Monferath was first a friend of Hassan and then a quarrel with him because he robbed Nizar merchants, and Hassan ordered his death. Two Fidainas, two assassins, came, said we were the most devout Christians you’d seen and lived there for 3 years. They lived for 3 years,
23:42went to a mass of people, and in one of the masses when the guard relaxed, the killer ran up and stabbed Conrad of Montferath in the chest, poisoned. Weapons are the most famous Myth about it (or not just the Myth) -all weapons used were poisoned, and there was no way to survive. But Conrad did not die. This assassin was killed at the hands of Conrad's guards. Then the second assassin came out of the crowd. So, he cut his throat. That's the way people act. Naturally, a cult that obeys its leader, who can kill like no other, has brought horror to the entire Arab world. And one by one, (this is also one of the important things),
24:25one by one, which began to cut and kill warlords, viziers, and Seljuk clerics. And the Seljuk state began to weaken. Because when intelligent people obtain stabbed-fools, they try to replace them. When fools obtain stabbed - more insane people come to replace them. The sect of Hassan (I cannot say that it has just destroyed them) was hardly degraded anyway because of their activity. At the Seljuks a feud began. Anyway, they did not threaten Elder from the Mountain anymore. Crusaders show up. (Watch "The Crusades" video). The Crusaders came and started fighting the local Muslims. Here is a small reference to Assassin’s Creed, where
25:09the main enemies of the assassins are the Templars. Well, in reality, of course, this was not the case. The thing is that - the old man from the mountain was not an ally, and when he saw the Seljuks starting to fight the Crusaders, he thought, "Okay, the Crusaders will weaken my enemies". He befriended the Crusaders and, on the orders of the Crusaders, killed the Seljuks. And when the Crusaders confronted him, he killed Conrad, King of Jerusalem, without sight. Evil tongues said that Conrad had been ordered by Richard the Lionheart, who quarreled with him and wanted to take the throne of the
25:46King of Jerusalem. Well, at some point, they were friends with the crusaders, and then they argued. Another of Hassan’s victims was Count Raymond II. By the way, he was the great-grandson of Anna Yaroslavna, Queen of France, and daughter of Jaroslav the Wise. There is some Russian blood on the hands of the assassins too. I have to say that the Assassins became a serious political power. More people have applied to the Elder the Mountain, and he becomes a leader of the killer's center. If you ordered it will not work anymore because this man will die anyway. If you ordered Khalifa, befriended him after, and later said: "Hassan, now you don't have to complete that order". It
26:31will not work anymore because this man will die anyway. It was a golden rule strictly observed. In many books, semi-historical and historical, you will find a quote that the Assassins have terrified even Western Europe. I honestly don’t believe that because how would they get there? Do you understand it correctly, right? In our days, you can get on a plane and fly to the territory of Iran, where the ruins of Alamut and say: "Here, we must kill a man in Paris". “No problem, now the killer is coming”. It used to take six months so no killer had been in Western Europe. But the merchants, the returning crusaders,
27:05and the Knights Templar spread the story of the assassins. Yes, they operate even in our courts. We can identify them, and we can find them. Understandably, the Templars thus gained political weight. But the Arab world was frightened by the Elder of the Mountain. Crusaders got the same feeling. One of the famous Arab heroes was Salahaddin or Saladin, who fought Richard the Lionheart, who had many victories over the Crusaders. He quarreled with the mountain Elder, and according to legend, there were eight attempts on his life, one resulting in serious injury. But he survived and eventually reconciled with the Elder of the mountain
27:49somehow. So you imagine what it was. They were all afraid of them as the world of shadows that comes to you, that gets you into trust. You don’t know if he’s your closest servant who might be preparing to kill you suddenly or spit at you with some poisoned dart. That’s the kind of people they were, and they became a serious political force. Speaking of unquestioning obedience, I should tell you one of the legends about the Elder of the Mountain. Hasan Ibn Sabah dies, and an heir comes to his place, who also calls himself the Elder of the mountain. At some point, Henri the Count of Champagne, a crusader, arrives
28:30at his court in 1130. He was around, and the Elder of mountain invited him to Alamut. Here he comes to this impregnable fortress (it really could not be taken), and they begin to talk. Henri says: "Well, dear Elder of the Mountain, do people really obey you? He says, "Oh, I don’t know". Two young guys were standing on the fortress wall. He makes a hand gesture, and they fall and crash. He says: "Well, there are 8 men who can now stab themselves in the throat if you do not believe, Henri". "Everything is clear, thank you very much". Such is the legend of unquestioning obedience. If the Elder of the Mountain orders you to die you must
29:13die. People have fanatically been loyal to him. It might be a fault of hashish usage, wine, or just this mystical story about the 13th imam. But the fact remains that- legends were made all about unquestioning submission. After Hasan Ibn Sabah's death, his state began to weaken. Why? Because heirs do not want to be the same as the Elder of Mountain ascetic- they want luxury, women, wine, and drugs. We do not know exactly (history does not tell us much about it). But history is not silent about luxury. And this is the commune that exists, which is starting to crumble because elites are emerging. The elite got the money. The Alamut mints his coin,
29:52which is found in ruins later. The state begins to deteriorate and crack at the seams. It has been around for some time. And yet, this mythology of a sect of assassins is still alive and reaches our days because this faceless Game of Thrones is the Assassins- the people who can transform into anything and kill you in five seconds. In June 1256, the kingdom of Lord Alamut, the kingdom of Hassan Ibn Sabah, came to an end. The new wave was coming that no one could stop at that moment: no Russians, no
30:35Europeans, and no Arabs, nobody. I’m talking about the Mongols. So the Mongols reached the borders of the kingdom of Alamut, the state of Alamut, and began to take the fortress by fortress, suppressing the fierce resistance, cutting out the garrison, and they approached Alamut. Alamut resists for almost six months, but then according to legend one of the traitors shows a bypass, and the fortress is seized by the Mongols. All people are being slaughtered. By the beginning of 1257 state of the Assassins was finished. There remain two
31:12fortresses of Lamasar, which resists for another year, and the fortress of Girb Kuh, which stands to death and the Mongols will capture her only 20 years later. There remain the most unshakable Nazarites and the unshakeable Assassins. Nevertheless, the fortress has fallen, and the Mongols are staging a brutal massacre - 10,000 Nazarites they slaughter, and the rest scatter. Some flee to Syria, some hides in the Iranian mountains, and some move to other cities. But according to legend, the ties between them remain. This whole stuff is about mercenary killers, which you cannot
31:56find because they’re all scattered in the Middle East. This legend still exists. Let's talk about myths and legends. About hashish, I have already told the story of hashish and the garden of paradise came up by Marco Polo himself, who traveled in Asia. The story about such a sect was told to him by one old woman. And so, before the assassin completes the order, he gets into the Garden of Eden, gets smoked hash there, and sees all this paradise food. Then when he comes back to the real world, he wants to go back there. He has been told: "Kill a man, someone kills you, and you will come back
32:33into the Garden of Eden." This is why the assassins, captured after the order fulfillment, die with a smile on their lips even under the cruelest torture. Because they knew they were going back to heaven. That is the story that Marco Polo created or told us. I’ve already told you about the hash too. It doesn’t comply with the strictest bans on wine, women, and anything. Also, the story is turbid. And about the Templars. It is also clear, well, the Templars were not strong then. The Hashshashin would take orders from anyone, anytime. The main thing is that they do not run counter to the interests of Alamut, the interests of the Elder of the Mountain. That is one such
33:15history of this order, shrouded in such a plume of legends. But on the other hand, the reality is that for 200 years, they have kept all the neighboring states, viziers, and caliphs in fear. And they dealt with it perfectly. Rumor has it the assassins have committed 850 contract murders. I got 15 from various sources, but according to one of the legends, all the gates got covered with brass plates. The killer’s name and the victim’s name combined. And yet, in general, the legend seems to be realistic. Here it was possible to put a pointed end to it, but we will put the dots, and here’s why: Ismailis,
33:54as a religious movement alive up to now. And after the disappearance of the State of Alamut, they scattered around the surrounding countries, as I told you. But most of them settled in Persia. They begin to manifest and intensify, they live as religious currents and perform their rites, but no one disturbs them. The Shah of Iran treats them pretty well. At some moment, there was some friction between the Shah and the head of the Ismaili Spiritual Order, the Ismaili spiritual movement. They argued with him, and then leader Ismaili was forced to flee to India,
34:37where he found himself. Ismailis were pursued but not killed. But in general, there is no patronage, much less any friendliness. and they were forced to migrate to India. Some people also moved to Pakistan to survive. Because of the movement, they were a closed group of very religious people. And that’s how it dissipated into India and Pakistan in the 19th century. And where do you think the leader of this movement from India goes? He goes to UK. In the United Kingdom, he settles and becomes part of the aristocracy,
35:17many come with it, and they integrate into English society. Someone joined the Army, many of them. And they’re doing pretty well. And in fact, they have not disappeared anywhere to this day. Naturally, there is the general mystical legend. The basis of the conspiracy theory that the secret knowledge of the Assassins, the secret knowledge of the Ismailis, first came to the Templars (watch that video) then to the Freemasons (watch this video), and then to the Illuminati (there is no video yet, but we will do it definitely). And thus, this secret sect controls the world. We laughed but conspiracy
36:01theories are probably not only conspiracy theories. You know what I mean. But the current leader of the Ismailis, Agakhan IV, is a handsome British aristocrat, a billionaire. I have seen him twice in my life. Perhaps you have heard something, most likely heard, about the fashionable resort of Sardinia. Sardinia was such an Italian province until the 1960s. Yes, the sea is clear there. Yes, it was beautiful, but then the Aga Khan came and said: “It's so beautiful! Very beautiful! Let's build a resort here.” Sardis are proud people but short-sighted, I need to say. How did they think? If a Sardis has two children, for example,
36:39a daughter and a son, the son gets a good house in the mountain because no one gets to the mountains, the elements, the pirates will not come to you, do not rob you and in that place can safely slaughter sheep and eat meat live perfectly all life. And the daughter (their situation is even worse), so let her in a hovel by the sea and huddle. Agha Khan bought all these shacks. On this site now, you can find on the Internet what Costa Esmeralda looks like today. These are some of the best houses in the world. And so Agha Khan created this story and this resort. There is only such a small part in the conspiracy. Let’s go for the big part. Agha Khan, for example,
37:20was the founder of the international society for the protection of animals, and he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. And he was nominated by the British, whether as Queen or Parliament, and (I can’t remember who supported him exactly) for a leader of the United Nations organization, but he didn’t succeed. Aga Khan led the Afghan Refugee Relief Organization. We remember from the previous video where English instructors deployed all their camps in Pakistan, where there were Afghan refugees. All humanitarian operations under the leadership of Agha Khan Four then took place in
38:02Afghan territory. If you click on Wikipedia, you will find a lot of information about him and his work experience in different organizations. He is known as a very influential person who solved many issues practically. He is well-known in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, France, England, and Italy. I mean, he’s got interests here, got business interests here. He is a great benefactor a great patron, and I have to say, he still holds the title of head of the Ismailis. And he is very well-known. There’s no conspiracy anymore. I found one of the testimonies of a French ethnographer named Jean Millor, and I honestly couldn’t find any scientific papers.
38:42But there is such evidence that he was in Pakistan on an ethnographic expedition and met with Ismailis, who still live in Pakistan. They told him that everybody in Ismaili was still paying tithes. And that’s why he’s so rich. It is clear that it is also mythology, but these Ismailis-Assasin, broken once by Hulagu Khan and to this day remotely, but present in our lives. So, you know, in history, there’s no such thing as a legend, you know, and conspiracy is conspiracy. As we talk, every legend has only a part of the legend. Everything else is true. That was the story of the Assassin sect. I want to say
